Cranberry Orange Scones

On Sunday I made brunch for some friends. I always make scones for brunch because they're so quick, easy, and good. I chose to use dried cranberries and orange zest because it's what I had on hand, but you can really use any combination of flavors that you think sounds good.

Cranberry Orange Scones
makes 12 scones

16oz AP flour
3oz sugar
1T baking powder
1/2t baking soda
1t salt
4oz unsalted butter
4oz dried cranberries
zest of one orange, finely chopped (use microplane and you don't have to chop)
8fl oz buttermilk

Sift together the flour, sugar, baking powder, and baking soda. Add in salt. Make sure your butter stays in the fridge until you're ready to use it. Cut into small pieces and place in flour mixture immediately. Cut the butter pieces into the flour mixture until the pieces are the size of a pea. Fold cranberries and orange zest. Then, fold in buttermilk. Be sure not to overmix as it will make the scones tough. Brush the top of scones with milk. Bake at 350 for approximately 20 minutes. Serve with butter, preserves, and clotted cream.
